My favorite ride

Posted by: my thirsty thoughts on: June 18, 2011

I’m a girl on the go, I love to hop to a place to the next place, I’m such a travel chic and my favorite ride….No, not a luxurious car that offer comfort and a well rested travel but a ride that has a free flowing air from the outside and lets you mingle with the people inside or your so called ride mate. I am actually referring to a Philippine pride ride and that is the “Jeepney ride”.

Jeepney on its flamboyant look

Jeepneys are the most popular means of public transportation in the Philippines. They were originally made from US military jeeps and are known for their colorful decoration. They have become a symbol of Philippine culture.

One of my unforgettable experience jeepney ride is riding on top of its roof in a zigzag road, that is Banaue, Ifuago to Bontoc, Mt. Province.

with my friends--Marela, Geh and Joy (not in photo)

Fact: Another word for jeepney is fierra but it’s rarely used.

Therea are also other rides that you might find interesting to try like;

KALESA

kalesa or calesa (sometimes called a karitela) is a horse drawn carriage.  Although, it is already rarely used as means of transportation there are some places in the Philippines that the use of kalesa are still preseved.  Try touring Vigan, Ilocos Sur on a Kalesa, you might also want to rent a Kalesa and see statue of Jose Rizal in Luneta, Manila and trace our history in Intramuros.  When you will go for a cheap finds in Divisoria and end up carrying rent a Kalesa and feel the old filipino way.
